Hey I’m not down for raving feminist rants, bashing men and being irrationally uptight about anything to do with women and gender but I am a firm believer of calling people out on their shit.
I pretty much love anything to do with Justin Timberlake and have done since I was a 14 year old wannabe so when I saw this picture circling around social media, I was pretty much heartbroken.
What angered me even more is that BOTH girls AND guys had been liking and commenting on it with stuff like ‘Amen’/’hell yes’/’dayum right’ (and other agreement of that bullshit variety.)
First of all, I breathed a sign of relief for my love of Justin Timberlake to learn that THIS is the real picture that has been modified to the disgusting version above…
The original picture is from a campaign that Justin Timberlake took part in through the DNA foundation set up by Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore that speaks out against human trafficking and child sex slavery.
The only way I can understand people agreeing with the modified picture is because of its supposedly 'supportive' message to curvy women and perhaps against the 'skinny ideal' of women's bodies.
But really it’s not that at all. Why?
1) Because that rules out the beauty of women’s bodies WHATEVER their natural/healthy/happy shape or size.
2) It uses vulgar language to refer to women as ‘bitches’ and highlights their attractiveness to men based on their breasts and the size of their butts. (I mean, how low can you really get?)
3) WORST OF ALL: it defines REAL MEN in this disgustingly shallow way. I MEAN WTF are we doing defining ‘men’ by their sexual preferences towards ‘bootylicious BITCHES’?!
Eurgh. Enraged and disgusted. All of you who agree with this need to check out the REAL campaign and also check YOURSELF.
